Social networking is becoming ubiquitous and a recent survey notes 22% of time spent online is associated with social networking activities. Since many workers use social media to promote business and network with other professions, social networking is now also a workplace concern. Facebook scams were the most common form of malware distribution in a recent survey and over 31 million false Facebook accounts exist according to one report. False accounts have been used to connect for purposes of gaining access to systems or gain information on the victim’s other contacts and connections. This course will review different types of social media, review expectations of privacy, explain the risks of social media and provide ideas on how we can protect ourselves while using this technology.
